FOLK INSTRUMENTALS
by guest Curator, Kirk Lamb
The glorious sound of hand-made and played acoustic instruments struck a chord in the public psyche during the folk music revival of the 1960s that grows larger each year.
The simplicity, clarity and lively qualities of the guitar, banjo, dulcimer, fiddle, mandolin and harmonica inspired an army of young people with a spirit of I-can-do-that! energy that in turn set off a wave of instrument sales, music lessons, practice sessions and living room hootenannies across America and beyond. Many of the musicians that inspired that energy were to be found on Elektra Records and nowhere was their talent better captured.
